I am driving through a #pine #forest and I suddenly see a wild rock. Only this rock is weird. It looks like it has square pieces and holes. I am curious and I was right. The square pieces are little homes and the holes are their #windows. It is the small village of Anavatos standing on a hard rock on this magnificent island.
Anavatos is a medieval settlement built during the middle byzantine years, on #Chios Island, Greece. It lies on a rock, at about 450 meters altitude, and between two gorges. Today it has only one resident while in the old days, residents reached 150 in number.

We left our car at the entrance and we started climbing between the old ruins. I try to imagine how it's old inhabitants could live here. The price to pay to escape the pirates was a life of climbing. But I think to myself that for them it was the usual and the only lady inhabitant in the village tells me why.
Their connection to the #rock was almost sacred. This is their home. The rock protects them, it helps them survive and it makes them learn to sing in the sounds of the wild #wind.
#Fact: Anavatos, the village's name, is an ancient Greek word. It comes from 'ana' which means towards up from lower ground, towards the top, the summit, plus the word 'vaeno' (Latin: venio, deriving from Greek: βαίνω ), which means I go, I proceed, I march. It is a wise word because it also includes the sacredness of the connection of the mountain with the soul. The Soul that comes again and again into a mortal body, every time in a higher level, every time climbing one more step, going through the #mountain of experience, until it reaches the God; our Divine Self...
#MountainMeditation: I reach the top. From there I can see the other peaks and understand how they speak to each other. I sit on an old wall and I close my eyes. I imagine the energy of the surrounding peaks. I see it creating a shield around me and giving me protection. I feel safe. Another shield from medieval times is gifted to me to hold. It is a present from the ancestors, mine to keep. I feel like an initiation happened. I open my eyes returning to the present. I thank the mountains for their gift.
